Nikos Zarkos (b. 1981, Kavala, Greece) commenced his guitar studies at the age of 8 at the Municipal Conservatory of Kavala, continued at the Municipal Conservatory of Thessaloniki with professor Evangelos Assimakopoulos and acquired his Diploma from the Thoukidideion Conservatory of Athens with professor Stelios Moustos.

During the period 1999-2003 he studied at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London, with Robert Brightmore as his guitar professor and David Miller as his theorbo tutor. He graduated with the degree Bachelor of Music.

During the period 2003-2007 he continued his postgraduate studies at the Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg/Augsburg with guitar professor Franz Halasz and Eduardo Egüez as his baroque music tutor. He acquired the degrees Diplommusiker (K.A.) and Meisterklassendiplom.

Nikos Zarkos has performed in masterclasses of the world guitar elite: Leo Brouwer, Manuel Barrueco, David Russell, Pepe Romero, Roberto Aussel, Aniello Desiderio, Joaquín Clerch, Marco Socías, Zoran Dukic, Oscar Ghiglia, Hubert Käppel, Alex Garrobé, Ricardo Gallén, Costas Cotsiolis and Kazuhito Yamashita.

Greek Guitar Music of the 21st Century (Subways Music, April 2011) is his debut CD. It features premiere-recordings by composers Theodore Antoniou, Christina Athinodorou, Georgia Kalodiki, Nickos Harizanos, Ioannis Kalantzis, William Antoniou and Leonidas Kanaris. In parallel, he supervised the edition of Fantasia in Memoriam by Theodore Antoniou for the Philippos Nakas Editions.

Female Writing for Guitar (Irida Classical, June 2013) is his second solo CD featuring the premiere of Breath by the composer Lina Tonia, as well as works by Sofia Gubaidulina, Franghiz Ali-Zadeh, Elsa Respighi, Matilde Salvador, Fernande Peyrot and Jana Obrovska.

In 2014 Nikos Zarkos recorded in collaboration with flutist Iwona Glinka the complete repertoire for flute and guitar by Theodore Antoniou for the double CD & DVD Theodore Antoniou: Friendly Encounters.

Nikos Zarkos collaborates regularly with the Greek Composers Union and in 2012 he presented the programme Greek Guitar Music (works by Christos Samaras, Giorgos Kouroupos, Nikos Kypourgos and G. A. Papaioannou) and in 2013 the programme Mediterranean Guitar Sonatas premiering the works Sonata for Guitar by Theodore Antoniou and Sonata for Guitar “The Four Silences” by Christos Samaras (both Sonatas will be released in his third solo CD Monologue in 2016). In 2014 he presented the programme Music for Guitar by Theodore Antoniou and during 2015-16 he will be presenting the programme Sonatas and Sonatinas for flute and guitar with flutist Nikos Nikopoulos.

Nikos Zarkos has performed as a duo with cellists Asterios Pouftis and Angelos Liakakis. He has also performed as a member of the Greek Ensemble of Contemporary Music, the Ergon Ensemble and the Ionian Festival Ensemble. To conclude, he has given recitals and chamber music concerts in Great Britain, Germany and Greece and he plays exclusively with Hannabach Titanyl strings.

Ο Νίκος Ζάρκος (γ. 1981, Καβάλα) ξεκίνησε τις σπουδές κιθάρας σε ηλικία 8 ετών στο Δημοτικό Ωδείο Καβάλας, συνέχισε στο Δημοτικό Ωδείο Θεσσαλονίκης με καθηγητή τον Ευάγγελο Ασημακόπουλο και απέκτησε το Δίπλωμα του από την τάξη του Στέλιου Μούστου στο Θουκυδίδειο Ωδείο της Αθήνας.

Την περίοδο 2003-07 συνέχισε τις μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές του στη Μουσική Ακαδημία της Νυρεμβέργης/Augsburg με καθηγητή κιθάρας τον Franz Halasz και μπαρόκ μουσικής τον Eduardo Egüez. Αποφοίτησε με τους τίτλους Diplommusiker (K.A.) και Meisterklassendiplom.

Έχει μαθητεύσει σε σεμινάρια της παγκόσμιας κιθαριστικής ελίτ: Leo Brouwer, Manuel Barrueco, David Russell, Pepe Romero, Roberto Aussel, Aniello Desiderio, Joaquín Clerch, Marco Socías, Alex Garrobé, Zoran Dukic, Oscar Ghiglia, Hubert Käppel, Ricardo Gallén, Κώστα Κοτσιώλη και Kazuhito Yamashita.

Το 2011 κυκλοφόρησε σε CD η πρώτη δισκογραφική του δουλειά με τίτλο Ελληνική Μουσική του 21^ου αιώνα για Κιθάρα (Subways Music) με πρώτες ηχογραφήσεις έργων Ελλήνων συνθετών: Θόδωρου Αντωνίου, Χριστίνας Αθηνοδώρου, Γεωργίας Καλοδίκη, Νίκου Χαριζάνου, Γουίλιαμ Αντωνίου, Γιάννη Καλαντζή και Λεωνίδα Κανάρη. Ταυτόχρονα, επιμελήθηκε την έκδοση του έργου Fantasia in Μemoriam του Θόδωρου Αντωνίου στις εκδόσεις Φίλιππος Νάκας.

Το 2013 κυκλοφόρησε το δεύτερο προσωπικό του CD με τίτλο Γυναικεία Γραφή για Κιθάρα (Irida Classical) ερμηνεύοντας σε πρώτη παρουσίαση το έργο Πνοή της Λίνας Τόνια, καθώς και έργα των συνθετριών Sofia Gubaidulina, Franghiz Ali-Zadeh, Elsa Respighi, Matilde Salvador, Fernande Peyrot και Jana Obrovska.

Το 2014 ηχογράφησε με τη φλαουτίστα Iwona Glinka το σύνολο της εργογραφίας του Θόδωρου Αντωνίου για φλάουτο και κιθάρα για το διπλό CD & DVD Theodore Antoniou: Friendly Encounters.

Συνεργάζεται τακτικά με την Ένωση Ελλήνων Μουσουργών, παρουσιάζοντας το 2012 το πρόγραμμα Ελληνική Μουσική για Κιθάρα (έργα Χρήστου Σαμαρά, Γιώργου Κουρουπού, Νίκου Κυπουργού και Γ. Α. Παπαϊωάννου) και το 2013 τις Σονάτες της Μεσογείου, ερμηνεύοντας τις πρεμιέρες των έργων Σονάτα για Κιθάρα του Θόδωρου Αντωνίου και Σονάτα για Κιθάρα «Οι Τέσσερις Σιωπές» του Χρήστου Σαμαρά (CD υπό έκδοση). Το 2014 παρουσίασε το πρόγραμμα Μουσική για Κιθάρα του Θόδωρου Αντωνίου και την περίοδο 2015-16 θα παρουσιάσει το πρόγραμμα Σονάτες και Σονατίνες για φλάουτο και κιθάρα με τον φλαουτίστα Νίκο Νικόπουλο.

Ο Νίκος Ζάρκος έχει εμφανιστεί ως ντουέτο με τους τσελίστες Αστέριο Πούφτη και Άγγελο Λιακάκη, με τη φλαουτίστα Iwona Glinka, καθώς επίσης ως μέλος του Ελληνικού Συγκροτήματος Σύγχρονης Μουσικής, του Ergon Ensemble, του Ελληνικού Κιθαριστικού Συνόλου και του Συνόλου Φεστιβάλ Ιονίων. Τέλος, έχει δώσει ρεσιτάλ και συναυλίες μουσικής δωματίου σε Αγγλία, Γερμανία και Ελλάδα και παίζει αποκλειστικά με χορδές Hannabach Titanyl.
